This Samsung DLP HDTV, the HL-R5067W, is a 50in rear projection set that has a built-in tuners for NTSC and ATSC (HDTV) and has a CableCard slot for connecting to supported cable TV services.
This Samsung DLP HDTV uses an aptical semi-conducter to recreate source material with a fidelity that can't be matched by most analog TVs. The tiny mirrors in DLP projection mean that more light reaches the screen, increasing the brightness of the image. DLP also has the advantage over LCD, that there is better color uniformity due to no 'burn in', screen ageing or color shifting. DLP is generall regarded as a superior technology to LCD for projection.
The HL-R5067W uses fast-switching Digital Micromirror Devices (DMD) which combined with Samsung's Cinema Smooth 720p light engine provides a crisp, bright picture with deep, rich, film-like colours.
As you would expect, the Samsung DLP HDTV has a 16:9 aspect ratio. The Samsung Digital Natural Image Engine (DNIe) Video Enhancer improves the quality of analog and wideband video input and improves contrast, white balance, picture detail and reduces digital noise from analog inputs. The HL-R5067W is compatible with 1080i and 720p HDTV formats, as well as 480p (EDTV) and 480i (SDTV) formats.
It has inputs for composite and S-Video, component video, HDMI, 16-pin D-sub, and FireWire.
Other features include picture-in-picture, on-screen TV guide, and five preset aspect ratios.
Reviews of the HL-R5067W on Amazon are very good, with one correspondent saying:
' I purchased this set and am floored by the quality of the picture. ?The set does a nice job with standard definition signals as well, always a concern with so little HD programming currently available. ?I work in the home theater department of a major electronics retailer and did my homework before deciding which set I'd spend my money on. This set won hands down over any of the other currently available models. It looked great on the showroom floor but it looks even BETTER in my home.'
