Samsung DLP HDTV

This Samsung DLP HDTV, the 50-inch (count 'em) HL-S5087W is a 1080p HDTV with analog and HDTV (ATSC) tuners and connections for HDMI and component.

It has a contrast ratio of up to 10000:1 which means blacker blacks, whiter whites and colors that are so vivid they practically jump right off the screen.

Other features of this Samsung DLP HDTV worthy of note are:

• Picture format adjustment, which allows youto watch 4:3 aspect ratio programs in widescreen without black bars, and stretches the image to fill the screen naturally.

• Color temperature adjustment, which allows you to select from five color settings (two cool, normal, and two warm) using the on-screen display.

• Auto volume leveller to keep volume consistent when changing channels.

• Parental controls.

The HL-S5087W also features Samsiung's DNIe (Digital Natural Image engine which improves contrast, white level, picture detail and removes noise from lower quality inputs. There's a three-line comb filter which reduces edge artefacts and improves transition detail. And the Cinema Smooth 3:2 pull-down which corrects the anomaly created when 24 frames-per-second movies are converted to 30 frames per second for DVD.

The 10W per channel speakers use Samsung's Dual Acoustic Chamber Syetem which isolates each woofer and tweeter in its own chamber so that low range (bass) sounds are enhanced and mid-range and treble sounds are sharpened.

In adddition to two component and two HDMI inputs, this HL-S5087W Samsung DLP HDTV has three composite inputs, two S-Video ports, one PC D-sub (VGA) input, an RF input, and a USB port.

DLP (Digital Light Processing) uses a chip comprising millions of microscopic mirrors. The mirrors switch on and off 15,000 times a second and deliver a razor sharp picture. DLP TVs and projectors have better color uniformity than LCD and don't suffer from burn-in the way plasma TVs do.
