What's so special about an HDTV projector? As with many technologies in the world of home entertainment, HDTV has been embraced by home theater enthusiasts. These are people who really appreciate the significant improvement in picture quality that high definition content provides. They are also among the early adopters of new HD equipment. Pretty much the first item on the HD shopping list of any home theater enthusiast is an HDTV projector.
As projectors have come down in price they've become increasingly popular in home theater set-ups and they also benefit even more than TV sets from high definition content.
A regular projector, because it magnifies a TV picture, also magnifies the defects and artefacts in that picture. An HDTV projector, therefore, magnifies the huge improvement in quality between regular TV and HDTV. Simply put, the benefits of HDTV are much more apparent when watching TV on a projector.
For so long, the advance in home theater technology have all been in the audio field. Finally, with high definition content, the pictures are catching up with the sound.
So what is the difference between a HDTV projector and a regular home theater projector? AN HDTV projector has a higher resolution, specifically, it will usually display vertically at 720p. That's 720 lines of vertical resolution progressive scan. It will also have the ability to connect to a HDTV tuner or HDTV DVD player using an HDMI (high Definition Multimedia Interface) connector.
The HDTV projector market is still relatively young, and prices reflect this. However, as with every new technology, as the market matures, prices will come down, and before you know it all home theater projectors will be HDTV compatible.
